Introduction

The Geology and Geophysics Library has more than 100,000 items on all aspects of geoscience. The library is an official depository for all U.S. Geological Survey publications and also collects documents/series published by state and foreign geological surveys.

Click on the menu to the left to access electronic journals and databases of interest to earth scientists. Often, these resources are licensed for use by UW-Madison faculty, students, and staff, or for on-campus use.

Also, using the menu to the left, click on New Acquisitions to see lists of materials which have recently arrived in the Geology Library.

Open Access Journals

Directory of Open Access Journals: Covers free, full-text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. Can browse by subject including Geology, Geophysics and Magnetism, and Oceanography.

American Geological Institute list: Covers many open access earth science journals and series.

European Geosciences Union List of Publications

J-STAGE (Japan Science and Technology Information Aggregator, Electronic): Includes Japanese journals, proceedings, reports, and society publications.

PubMed Central: The National Institutes of Health digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journals.

SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online): Covers open access journals from numerous countries, particularly Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

Databases

GeoRef: is the principal database for geological titles (English language). It includes serials, conference papers and abstracts, guidebooks, maps, reports, theses and some monographs.
