Research

My research uses seismic data to investigate the structure of, and dynamic processes that operate within, the Earth. I’m interested in developing innovative seismic imaging methods to model the crust and upper mantle, spanning scales from continents to individual volcanoes. My group’s research covers exciting topics including melting in the American Southwest, slippery earthquakes in the Alaska subduction zone, and volcanic unrest in the southern Andes. Furthermore, I integrate seismic models with other geophysical and geological information to interpret thermal and chemical variations within the solid Earth, and uncover histories hidden within the lithosphere. Finally, I’m pursuing new experiments and novel forms of seismic data collection to study phenomena that pose hazards to society such as volcanism, and unique flavors of seismicity.
