Master’s Degree

Graduate School Requirements for a master’s degree

  • See Museum Curator at least 2 months before defense for specimen deposit information, if applicable. (See UW Thesis Specimens worksheet)
  • See the Graduate Program Manager at least 3 weeks before defense for necessary paperwork and to request master’s warrant
  • Receive approval of the completed thesis from G&E Committee and present a public, department-wide oral presentation as part of the defense of research results.
  • Return signed warrant to the Graduate Program Manager
  • Deposit thesis in Memorial Library
  • Deposit unbound copy of thesis to Geology Library, 440 Weeks Hall

Doctoral Degree

Graduate School Requirements for a doctoral degree

Department requirements:

  • See Museum Curator at least 2 months before defense for specimen deposit information, if applicable. (See UW Thesis Specimens worksheet)
  • See the Graduate Program Manager at least 3 weeks before defense for necessary paperwork and to request final oral warrant
  • Receive approval of the completed thesis from PhD Examining Committee and present a public, department-wide oral summary of research.
  • After passing your oral defense, contact the Graduate School at 608-262-2433 to arrange an appointment for the final review (optional).
  • Deposit your dissertation electronically.
  • Deposit unbound copy of thesis to Geology Library, 440 Weeks Hall
