The Department has a rich and expansive research portfolio. Our students collaborate with renowned professors in the search for answers and solutions to age-old mysteries as well as new problems. The results of our research lead to knowledge breakthroughs that impact science and technology for decades to come. The Department supports its students with a number of funding opportunities, and our facilities are comprehensive.
RESEARCH PROFILE
Andrea Dutton, Professor
Andrea Dutton is a geochemist and paleoclimatologist reconstructing sea levels and ice sheet changes during earlier periods of global warming on Earth. A robust understanding of the ancient interactions among global temperatures, ice volumes, and sea levels is critical for assessing the magnitude and rate of future sea level rise due to climate change. Dutton draws upon the geological record of ancient shorelines to quantify the past sea levels, particularly during past warm periods such as the last interglacial period (approximately 125,000 years ago), when the global climate was similar to present day.
